The Power of "Why"

‘ My favorite chicken is Creampuff and Alice the bunny!’
Dahlia, age 8, came home from school one day and told her mom that she doesn’t want to eat meat anymore.
At her school, Dahlia and her classmates take turn caring for their school pets…..besides your typical hamsters and goldfish, they also have wild chickens and bunnies. Dahlia’s favorites are the chicken named Creampuff and Alice the bunny!
‘If they’re my friends, how could I eat them mommy? I don’t want to eat chicken anymore, I don’t want to eat other meats either.’
And since then (been over 2 months), Dahlia been living her best meatless life. For most of us, we’ll prolly dabble here and there…stopping cold turkey is no easy task. But our Dahlia took our whole family by surprise, her will power, her determination, her compassion, her empathy are proven to be unchallenged! Even during the recent Super Bowl gathering, all the cousins at her age were nibbling on wings, ribs, pepperoni pizzas….Dahlia happily eating her vegetables hibachi lomein that her daddy made just for her.
It still blows my mind how an 8 yo child has such a mindset, putting aside her cravings and favorite meats in the name of ‘Creampuff is my friend!’ This goes to remind us all…regardless of our age …the important of WHY, the important of knowing WHY you do what you do! When your WHY is so big, so clear, so personal….everything seems to align…your mind, your action, your heart act as one!
“When your WHY is so big, so clear, so personal….everything seems to align…your mind, your action, your heart act as one! ”
When I grow up, I want to be just like our Dahlia…when you love someone or something strong enough that you’ll do everything in your power to protect it from harms. Even if it’s just you doing it alone, you’ll still stand tall and do it with so much love and proudness!
P.S Dahlia is the daughter of my younger sister, whose nickname at home is Bé-em….yes, the founder of Bé-em Asian Kitchen🥰.
P.S.S I did request for a pic of Creampuff and Alice the Bunny, but Dahlia said ‘I Tried, but they ran too fast! I fell chasing after them!’ But here’s a pic of her other love…Princess Chamomile!💕
